Love Work Family Friends Games Kids Life

I am runner, but I have little to no upper body strength. On my second day of gym class, we had to do push ups. You know how many I could do? Zero. Zilch. That’s true. I thought I would never be able to do one, no matter how long I tried. I cried many nights. But every single day, I practiced them. I couldn’t even do knee push ups–I had to start with wall ones. I kept working, and I finally I could do knee pushups (only three). Then one day, I tried a real push up, and I failed. I couldn’t push myself back up. I was devastated, but I kept working every day. Another day I tried it again. And I did it. A whole push up.
I kept going every day. Probably a month later, I tried to see how many push ups I could do. I thought I would only do two. And I did six.
Six is not impressive by any means, but to me, it is. I tried more last night and they were so easy. It is amazing how much harder they were before. My goal is to get to 15.
Those of you who have great upper body strength are probably rolling your eyes at me right now. But to those of you who can’t do a single push up, I have something to say. Never give up. I don’t care how many times you hear it, it’s true. And never expect instant results. It took me probably a month to be able to do one push up. Now I’m getting better fast, but still. It could take three months, it could take six months. But it will happen. You just have to keep trying.
